Requiem for Tony

My love for classical guitar is inspired from a young age by my late uncle, an accomplished classical guitarist, pro climber, and hero. I have shared some recordings and sheet music from a series of original compositions you can learn to play (approximately AMEB grade 3). They are written as requiems to honour his memory.

The Joy of Outdoors
Remembering the frivolity and joy of preparing to go on an adventure in the great outdoors.

Music for Gatherings
Reflecting on the many times that he would play for us at family gatherings or significant events.

The Summit
The harsh environment he guided people through to see the beauty of unforgiving, rugged mountains.

On His Shoulders
The feeling of being supported by your hero to achieve beyond your reach.

Easier to learn and play versions

In the spirit of Tony’s inclusive and encouraging attitude to sharing his love for music, I have included easier to learn versions of these pieces.

These versions try to retain the feel of the piece while reducing hand position changes, simplifying timing and accompaniments.

I’ve also included a non-standard tab notation to help with finger placement. Hope this helps.

Special thanks to Vladimir for assistance with transcribing these works, and providing recommendations for improving playability.

On His Shoulders (Simplified)
Changed key, simplified hand positions and timings. Requires drop D tuning.
